Come join us at our quarterly community meetings. At the meetings, lead by Association President Denise Payne, we discuss common issues and solutions to make our neighborhood a better place to live. The Richmond Police Department and the Fifth District Councilperson’s office often attend to hear directly from our residents. We also try to invite a guest speaker to present on topics of importance. All community members are welcome to attend. If you cannot attend in person, please let us know and we can setup a conference bridge for you.

The association sponsors a neighborhood clean-up the first Saturday of each month from 10:00 to noon. We meet at 52 East 32nd Street at the corner of McRand Street. Bags, safety vest and pickers are provided. If you cannot make the clean-up, please consider picking up litter on the your block at another time during the month. Every little bit helps. If you would like more information, please email rvaswansborowest@gmail.com or text/call (804) 592-0708. You can also signup for the clean-up events on meetup.com in the "RVA Clean City Sweep" group or on our CF Engage page.

The Richmond Tree Stewards, in partnership with the Swansboro West Civic Association and Southside ReLeaf, received a $63,000 grant from the City Office of Sustainability to plant 100 young trees in approved city street sites between the sidewalk and curb throughout Swansboro West. The project began in January 2024 and concluded in May 2026. In the end, 240 trees were planted throughout the neighborhood due to several cost savings including neighbors offering to water the trees during the first two years. By avoiding the cost of a contractor to water the trees, the project was able to purchase two additional trees each one watered by a neighbor.
Some planting locations could only support a small or medium tree due to overhead wires or how narrow the space is between the curb and sidewalk. The right tree had to be selected for the right location to avoid issues down the road like buckled sidewalks. That said, there are a number of difference tree species that could work in any given planting site so the person living at that location will be asked for input on the tree selection and every attempt will be made to plant a tree they select. As you drive around the neighborhood, you will likely see a lot of new trees that were planted because of this project. If you see any issues with these or any trees, please let us know and we will get it resolved.

At the October 1, 2024 meeting of the Association, the membership voted unanimously to amend the by-laws for the Civic Association to expand the area covered by the association. Please feel free to submit comments and question to rvaswansborowest@gmail.com.
